The Hex of Hangzhou? 八卦田
The Hangzhou Octagram farm must be a well kept secret as it took quite a while to find the proper name for the place – 八卦田 – let alone its location – Yuhuangshan Road as it turns into Nanfu Road (玉皇山路和南复路). On a clean day there are great views of Hangzhou and West Lake and the Qiantang River, a little history and a pint at the end of it all.

Longjing New Tea 1Y per Leaf
Despite the dustbowl that Hangzhou became on Sunday – something to do with the Gobi desert migrating to Japan – we decided to go for a wander and see of they had started picking the new tea yet… …I couldn’t figure out if they were trying to park, or drive, or just organise an impromptu air horn requiem to google.cn. Whatever it was, it was time to walk, because the cars wouldn’t be going anywhere for a while…

D’Cafe Hangzhou
…Seriously though. D’Cafe isn’t actually a hotdog place in the Projects. Far from it. With the marble clad reception of the Dragon Hotel large enough to park a whole NBA teams’s worth of Hummers this place is more fitting to be seen drinking Crystal Champagne than chasing the dragon. With all this awe and glory and chandelier on the way in, it is slightly surprising that D’Cafe isn’t done up to the nines as well. This restaurant is simply comfortable …

Eudora Station
Chatting about Eudora Station, the restaurant’s owner wanted to know if it was a good thing that many were saying that Eudora is the “new Paradise Rock”. I am sure nobody much likes to be compared with somebody or something else, especially when you don’t know the other, but I told Thomas that it was probably a good thing.

Jamaica Cafe
Dont really know why this place is called Jamaica, it is a chain of cafe’s from Spain. And it certainly doesn’t have that Reggae thing going on. Whatever the name, Jamaica Cafe is good, and could be called just about anything. These guys really know about their coffee, or at least I think so, and [...]

Counter-Strike China, BB Gun…
Hahahaha. God it was a lot of fun. And intense. And pretty painful too – obviously not the same as 7.62mm AK-47 round – but enough to try to make sure you dont get hit too many times. I like real guns that shoot real things that move – not too many people on the [...]

Amigos Bar
Tony Ying has been running bars since he left school and all have had a unique buzz and friendliness. The first time I met him was in what we all called The Tent Bar, half way up Yuhuangshan Road, and named after the huge octagonal marquee he had outside. That place was all wood fires, [...]

Walk to Meijiawu | 梅家坞
It was one of those magic days that you get in the spring in Hangzhou and so it was with a little trepidation we set off looking for a cab – Sunday, nice weather means no cabs. Of course I have no qualms at all shoving some nice old lady out of the way, afterall [...]

Sunday afternoon, Hangzhou Hyatt Terrace
“Let longe Hyatt”. English isn’t his strongest suit. 45 minutes later, laptop and swimshorts (in hand) I am settling into a teak chair outside the Hangzhou Hyatt restaurant. It’s a bit early for a White Russian, but we had been drinking those the night before, and didnt really want
