Valentino Restaurant
Probably the best thing about Valentino Italian Restaurant at Landison is the view looking out over Hangzhou as you stand at the urinal to pee. Well, the rest of the views are pretty good too. But nevertheless, that makes the restaurant the most expensive public toilet in Hangzhou. The other restaurants in the hotel are [...]

Longjing New Tea 1Y per Leaf
Despite the dustbowl that Hangzhou became on Sunday – something to do with the Gobi desert migrating to Japan – we decided to go for a wander and see of they had started picking the new tea yet… …I couldn’t figure out if they were trying to park, or drive, or just organise an impromptu air horn requiem to google.cn. Whatever it was, it was time to walk, because the cars wouldn’t be going anywhere for a while…

Angelos – A Slice of New York in Hangzhou
The Chateaubriand was 20 centimeters long, the whole tail end of a filet of beef. Slightly blackened on the outside, this gargantuan piece of beef cleaved open, almost poetically, to show the soft juicy pink centre…

99Y buffet at Landison
Was snooping around the MOREHangzhou website on Sunday looking for somewhere to go for buffet lunch and the 99Y++ deal at Cafe Le Rendevous, Landison grabbed the attention. 99Y? Got to be a catch. MORE says you have to make a reservation with them to get the discount, so I duly did.

D’Cafe Hangzhou
…Seriously though. D’Cafe isn’t actually a hotdog place in the Projects. Far from it. With the marble clad reception of the Dragon Hotel large enough to park a whole NBA teams’s worth of Hummers this place is more fitting to be seen drinking Crystal Champagne than chasing the dragon. With all this awe and glory and chandelier on the way in, it is slightly surprising that D’Cafe isn’t done up to the nines as well. This restaurant is simply comfortable …

Ajisen Noodles
Hunting around you can still find a bowl of noodles in Hangzhou for very little money so Ajisen Ramen’s 20-30RMB per bowl seems a little cheeky. Of course your local Xinjiang Hand-pulled Noodle cupboard isn’t exactly 5-star comfort, in fact most of those places don’t even have a front door, a slight turn-off in the winter. But paying four or five times the rate for the pleasure of a front door?

Your nearest Macdonalds
A Martian during his first hour on Earth might appreciate a MacDonalds review, lest it think that humans actually call this stuff food. All ideas of ’sandwich’ and ‘burger’ would need redefining. Nevertheless, not expecting any of you to actually own up to eating this non-food, I know that some secretly do. Here is a map of your nearest MacDonalds.

Eudora Station
Chatting about Eudora Station, the restaurant’s owner wanted to know if it was a good thing that many were saying that Eudora is the “new Paradise Rock”. I am sure nobody much likes to be compared with somebody or something else, especially when you don’t know the other, but I told Thomas that it was probably a good thing.

Fengdu Restaurant (枫都美食)
It would seem to be a serious omission that there isn’t a page on here about Fengdu Restaurant, as it is a veritable gem, nearly always open, great for after after-dinner-drinks dinner And it’s right next door to my favourite drinking establishment, Maya Bar. So time to correct that omission my first day back to [...]

Green Tea Restaurant
No place is perfect, and Green Tea is no exception. Despite the name, this restaurant doesn’t really have anything to do with green tea or even Hangzhou, but it is one of those places that would be a shame to miss. It’s just the character of place really. Aside from the food, which is excellent [...]
