Amigos Bar

Tony Ying has been running bars since he left school and all have had a unique buzz and friendliness. The first time I met him was in what we all called The Tent Bar, half way up Yuhuangshan Road, and named after the huge octagonal marquee he had outside. That place was all wood fires, sofas, happy eats and lots of cold beer. After that along with Ye Dan he built 7 Club from a sleepy nobody-there-place into what it is today. Now he has finally gone off on his own and opened Amigos.
At the moment the place is half the size of 7, maybe less, but he has got back the terrace outside. Just off Yugu Road and next to the Botanical Gardens, its all green around here and not too noisy. He has kept much of the bits and pieces that made 7 and Tent popular – the happy efficient staff, BBQ, good music, wood decor and a good range of imported beers.
